In 1980, fat was killing you.
In 2026, fat is healing you.
The food didn't change. The story did.
I'm 35. I've already watched the experts flip 4 times.
Butter. Eggs. Red meat. Fat itself.
Every one of them killed you.
Every one of them healed you.
Same food. Different decade. Different cover story.
The Cycle, On a Timeline
1977 → Government declares fat causes heart disease.
1984 → Time cover: cholesterol kills. Butter out, margarine in.
1992 → Food Pyramid: 11 servings of grain a day.
1995 → SnackWell's. Olestra. Fat-free flies off shelves. Americans get fatter.
2003 → Atkins peaks. Fat's the hero. Bread's the villain.
2011 → Wheat Belly. Gluten will kill you.
2017 → Keto goes mainstream. Butter in your coffee.
2026 → Carnivore. Raw milk. Seed oils are the new villain. Butter's back.
Every decade brings a new villain, a new hero, a new book deal, a new cover story.
What Never Flipped
→ Eat food your great-grandmother would recognize.
→ Walk more than you sit.
→ Spend time in the sun.
→ Lift something heavy.
→ Sleep when it's dark.
Boring and true for 50 straight years.
Why Boring Actually Works
Here's the part the cover stories never mention:
Your body doesn't adapt to headlines. It adapts to inputs.
Sleep, sun, food, movement. These are the signals your cells have been reading for 200,000 years. Mitochondria. Hormones. Insulin. Inflammation. Every system you have is built to respond to them.
The flip-of-the-decade stuff is noise on top of that.
The guys I work with who lose 20-30 lbs and reverse their bloodwork aren't doing anything new. They're getting consistent about what's been true the whole time.
Headline-chasers train themselves to chase the next magic pill.
The boring crowd trains themselves to trust the daily process.
One group is always starting over.
The other group is always getting better.
I trust boring now.
Boring doesn't flip.
Boring doesn't sell magazines, doesn't trend on TikTok, doesn't make anyone rich on a podcast tour.
It just works.
Here's to a boring weekend.
In your corner,
Coach Zack
